Programs

Tualatin Together’s work is focused on creating connections for youth and adults to ensure they have the skills and resources they need to live their best lives. We accomplish this in many ways including supporting youth and a Latino Coalition who focus on empowering themselves and those around them to understand the harms of youth substance misuse. We also provide programs in the community such as Dressed To Dream, Safety Town Tualatin and PumpkinPalooza that all provide an added protective factor for our kids as they navigate Kindergarten through the high school years.

LEAP Youth Alliance (Leadership. Education. Advocacy. Prevention.) has been serving students at Tualatin High School since 2011 and at Hazelbrook Middle School starting up again in 2024. These youth-led and adult-guided clubs seek to increase participants’ ability to navigate life with positive coping skills that do not include substances. Students plan educational events, fun events where youth can simply connect with others and be in a safe space as well as invest in their own prevention and personal leadership skills education by attending local, state and national training such as the National Youth Leadership Institute in WA D.C.. LEAP also volunteers at many community events both large and small. Keeping youth engaged with people of all ages and stages in life creates connections and bonds that help them grow into well rounded adults who seek to serve others. These youth clubs are supported by Tualatin Together staff and done in partnership with the schools.

Fentanyl Awareness

LEAP students recently held a Fentanyl Awareness event to inform students about keeping themselves and others safe from a poisoning death due to fentanyl. Great resources from @song4charlie were also shared and we appreciate being able to share their resources.

Additional Information can be found at the Song For Charlie Website.

Song for Charlie is a national family-run nonprofit that is dedicated to raisting awareness about ‘fentapills’ – fake pills made of fentanyl.

Dressed to Dream is a FREE program sponsored in partnership with Tualatin Together, the Tigard-Tualatin School District and Rolling Hills Community Church. The two volunteer run events throughout the year serve hundreds of students in the Portland Metro Area providing attire for homecoming and prom. Students are able to choose from thousands of formal or semi-formal dresses, slacks, jackets and dress shirts. In addition to formal wear, students have the opportunity to receive shoes and accessories to finalize the look that they are dreaming of. Tualatin Together has adapted the National Safety Town Center curriculum for our community and will host Safety Town camps in July. Safety Town Tualatin’s goal is to create foundational safety habits for elementary-aged students to use at home, school, and/or community spaces.

Safety Town is a 1 week camp for kindergarten – 5th graders that teaches age-appropriate safety lessons about 14+ topics. Safety Town campers benefit from a 6:1 camper to counselor ratio as well as guest presentations, field-trips, songs, dance, crafts, games, and other hands-on experiences to learn basic safe practices.

Three Safety Town sessions will be offered this year: 3rd-5th grade: July 13-17. Kindergarten – 2nd grade: July 20-24, July 27-31 Camp runs daily from 9am-3pm. We are offering to the first 30 people registered an EXTENDED CAMP DAY. This extended day will go from 3:00 – 5:30pm.

Safety Town Tualatin delivered an outstanding experience in 2025, with parents reporting that the program met expectations, helped build foundational safety habits, and that they would recommend it to others. Families praised the camp’s organization, engaging staff, and clear communication, while scholarships increased accessibility for children throughout the community. Campers gained essential safety skills, including fire safety, bicycle safety, and emergency preparedness, and parents suggested additional topics such as social media and firearm safety. Overall, the program demonstrated high satisfaction, meaningful impact, and strong potential for retention and referral.

All campers must be accompanied into camp each day by a parent/guardian. When you and your camper arrive at camp on the first day we will ask you to confirm some of the information from your registration process: approved pickups, medical and special needs accommodations, and any waivers or permissions still outstanding.

Your camper will receive and be asked to put on their Safety Town Tualatin T-shirt. These shirts are color coded for each group and we ask that campers wear them each day during camp. Once they are ready, your camper will say goodbye to you and walk with one of our counselors to their group’s tent to start the day with a quiet activity that prepares them for the day’s core themes.

What should we expect at check-out for Safety Town Tualatin?

All campers must be checked out each day by an approved person. Whoever is picking up your camper will check in at our registration table and present their identification to confirm they are on the approved pick up list. Once confirmed, they will receive your camper’s pick up token. They’ll take that token to your camper’s color group area and exchange the token for your camper.

Your camper will take home crafts completed (and ready for transport) and handouts from our guest presenters from the day. Campers should also take home their water bottles and snack containers each day. We ask campers to leave their Safety Town Tualatin Color Group T-shirt  with their counselor so that they can have them ready for the next day at camp. Campers can opt to leave their bike helmets or bring it home and back each day, that is up to you.

I need to change who is an approved pick up for my camper, how do I do that?

List as many of the approved pick up people for your camper in their Safety Town Tualatin registration. After registration is complete, email us at safetytown@tualatintogether.org to add an approved pick up person. Include their full legal name and identification/license number.

How can I prepare my camper for camp?

Safety Town campers will be learning a lot of essential safety habits during camp. You can help them prepare to get the most out of camp by working with them to make sure they know their first and last name, a parent/guardian first and last name, a phone number to call in case of emergency, and their home address. You can use the Safety Town Tualatin pre-camp worksheets for campers and parents/guardians to help! And, don’t worry, if you don’t get to it before camp, we will be working on all of these things each day.

What is your refund policy?

It is our policy to refund 100% of summer camp registration fees (minus a $20 non-refundable service charge) if your withdrawal notice is given 14 or more days before the start date of the program. A 50% refund will be given if withdrawal notice is given less than 14 days before the start date of the program. Registration fees are not refunded for withdrawals less than 24 hours before the start of the program.

What should I do if my camper is sick?

Safety Town Tualatin uses the same When Can My Child Return to School policy as used by the Tigard Tualatin School District.

If a camper develops a fever, throws up, or has other obvious symptoms of illness that develop at camp, we will call the parent/guardian and ask for them to promptly pick up their camper.
